Malaysiakini was today barred from attending a scheduled press conference by Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan at the EPF building in Kuala Lumpur.
Despite being initially allowed into the lounge room where the members of the press were waiting for the minister, the reporter was later told that there were instructions not to allow Malaysiakini into the press conference.
The press conference by Ahmad Maslan was scheduled to take place after his working visit to the EPF headquarters.
This is not the first time, with Malaysiakini having previously been banned from entering any Umno events at the Putra World Trade Centre and at the Umno headquarters.
At the Umno headquarters, the portal was prevented from entering its election monitor room on May 5.
It was also banned from entering Umno's anniversary celebrations in PWTC shortly after the May 5 polls.
Even the Defense Ministry had banned the portal from covering its press conferences and events.
More recently, on June 3, its reporter was barred from covering Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's meeting the International Committee of the Red Cross regional delegation head Jeremy England, at the ministry in Putrajaya.
However, Malaysiakini was able to obtain a recording of Zahid's interview at the doorstep to his office.
It is, however, unusual for Malaysiakini to be banned from entering a press conference taking place in a public building.
