Former MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat has not put any speculation to rest that he might contest the party's top post, saying only today to watch out for his bid to attend the internal elections as a delegate.
“To-date, my only response is I will only seek to secure a delegate seat, if and only if I am keen to be eligible to vote as a central delegate OR to contest any party post (not necessarily the presidency) in the party poll,” Ong wrote on his Facebook page this afternoon.
The former Pandan MP made the statement after an interview in a Chinese daily implied that he was open to the idea of running for the party’s top post.

The party presidency is up for grabs after Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek announced that he would step down after the party’s dismal performance in the May 5 general elections.
The Barisan Nasional's senior Chinese party only won seven out of the 37 federal seats it contested in Election 2013, their worst performance ever.
Ong did not defend his Pandan seat in this year's general elections ter the party dropped him from its list of candidates.
The move to leave out the five-term Pandan MP was attributed to internal disputes among MCA's top brass.
Instead, MCA named little-known parachute candidate Gary Lim to defend the seat against Pakatan Rakyat’s Rafizi Ramli.
